Machida is ranked No. 5 and Dollaway No. 11 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA middleweight rankings. Machida also is an Honorable Mention in the pound-for-pound rankings.
Dollaway has been on a bit of a tear, winning four of his past five fights and two straight. In May, he took a unanimous decision from Francis Carmont to follow up on a 39-second knockout of Cezar Ferreira in March. His win over Carmont was a “Performance of the Night” winner.
Dollaway lost a disputed split decision to Tim Boetsch at UFC 166, which snapped a two-fight streak of decision wins over Jason Miller and Daniel Sarafian. Although non-Brazilians have struggled in Brazil against home fighters, Dollaway has won there twice, and also has wins in Germany and Australia in the UFC. He’s never lost outside the United States.
Machida earned a title shot against champion Chris Weidman after just two fights at middleweight. He knocked out Mark Munoz nearly a year ago in England, then topped Gegard Mousasi in February to get his shot at the champ. But he dropped a hard-fought unanimous decision to Weidman in July in the UFC 175 main event.
All three of his fights at middleweight have been post-fight bonus winners, but now he will try to work his way back up the ladder against Dollaway.
The event’s full bout order has yet to be released. However, the current UFC Fight Night 58 card includes:
C.B. Dollaway vs. Lyoto Machida
