UFC 190 Brazil: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira to fight Struve

April 8, 2015

For just the second time, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will join his brother on a UFC fight card.

Nogueira (34-9-1 MMA, 5-5 UFC) has been booked for a fight against fellow heavyweight Stefan Struve (25-7 MMA, 9-4 UFC) at UFC 190 in August. Nogueira’s twin brother, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, meets Mauricio Rua on the same card.

UFC 190 takes place Aug. 1 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The card, headlined by a women’s bantamweight title fight between champion Ronda Rousey and Brazil’s Bethe Correia, airs on pay-per-view, FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Previously, the Nogueira brothers fought together at UFC 140 in Toronto. Rogerio beat Tito Ortiz at the event, but Rodrigo had his arm broken by Frank Mir.

Nogueira most recently fought a year ago when he headlined UFC Fight Night 39 in Abu Dhabi. But there, Roy Nelson knocked him out with a single punch. Prior to that, Fabricio Werdum submitted him with an armbar in the UFC on FUEL TV 10 main event. His most recent win came at UFC 153, where he picked up a “Submission of the Night” bonus for tapping out Dave Herman.

Struve returned this past December after a lengthy layoff due to a heart ailment, but Alistair Overeem knocked him out at UFC on FOX 13. Before that, Mark Hunt knocked him out at UFC on FUEL TV 8, which snapped a four-fight winning streak of stoppages. In that run, he submitted Pat Barry and Lavar Johnson and knocked out Herman and Stipe Miocic, picking up three bonuses in the process. The Dutchman fights in Brazil for the first time in his career.

With the addition, UFC 190 now includes:

Ronda Rousey vs. Bethe Correia – for bantamweight title
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Mauricio Rua
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Stefan Struve
