While next month’s “UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II” event takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, the previous day’s weigh-ins will take place at the nearby Mandalay Bay Events Center.
UFC officials recently announced the location of the weigh-ins, which coincide with the UFC Fan Expo that takes place July 6-7 at Mandalay Bay Events Center.
Featuring a headlining rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva and the man who nearly beat him at UFC 117, Chael Sonnen, UFC 148 takes place July 7, with the weigh-ins taking the day prior.
UFC 148 has undergone a massive transformation in recent weeks. This past Saturday, UFC officials announced the card’s co-headlining interim bantamweight championship bout between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao had been moved to UFC 149, which lost its intended headliner of featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Erik Koch due to an injury.
Previously, it was Rich Franklin who was poached from the card. “Ace” was expected to fight Cung Le at UFC 148, but when headliner Vitor Belfort was forced to withdraw from UFC 147, Franklin was tapped to fill in and face Wanderlei Silva in the night’s main event.
UFC 148 also was expected to feature a middleweight slugfest between Michael Bisping and Tim Boetsch, but after the fight was moved to UFC 149, an injury nixed that matchup, as well.
Despite all of the shuffling, UFC 148 still features one of the most heavily anticipated rematches in UFC history and is expected to be a blockbuster event.
