Anderson Silva in new ‘UFC on FOX’ commercial

March 27, 2012

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is the latest fighter featured in a “UFC on FOX” commercial.

On Monday, UFC officials announced that Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) will headline June’s UFC 147 event in Rio de Janeiro in a long-awaited rematch with Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC).

In the 30-second spot, “regular guy” Silva shows he how likes to help out around the neighborhood.

FOX is using the spots to introduce some of the UFC’s biggest names to the masses, and they do so by portraying the athletes as not-so-normal guys. UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones, for example, was featured an earlier spot that humorously showcased both his parenting and striking skills.

Silva’s fight with Sonnen comes on June 23. The pay-per-view event (which includes prelims on the FOX-owned FX) takes place at Joao Havelange Stadium (also known as Engenhao Stadium). With a seating configuration that could reach 80,000, UFC 147 is expected to break the UFC attendance record that Toronto’s Rogers Centre set with UFC 129 (55,724) in 2011.

Silva, MMA’s reigning pound-for-pound kingpin, looks to continue his own UFC records for consecutive wins (currently at 14), most consecutive title defenses (nine) and longest title reign (nearly 2,000 days).
