Silva: White decides weight classes

Few fans at the Direct Energy Centre were pumped to see middleweight champion Anderson Silva fight Yushin Okami at UFC 134. They were more interested in a superfight with welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, who received a raucous welcome.

The fans had no problem, either, with a Silva appearance at light-heavyweight against champ Jones.

Silva signed off on the first. The second, not so much.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to fight Georges St-Pierre,” the Brazilian fighter said in English, which received a round of applause on its own. “In my opinion, I have two guys that are the best in the world. The first guy, the name is B.J. Penn. Second, Georges…”

And that’s where a torrent of boos cut him off. Mentioning Penn in a crowd of rapid St-Pierre fans might not have been the best idea.

Move on to something else, like the thought of light heavyweight.

“I’m so happy in my category,” Silva stressed. “But, one day, I don’t know. This is not my decision. This is Dana’s decision.”
