‘Silva vs. Sonnen II’ tickets on sale next week

April 27, 2012

Tickets for the blockbuster “UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II” event go on sale next week.

Featuring a heavily anticipated rematch between UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) and his outspoken nemesis, Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC), UFC 148 takes place July 7 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Tickets for the event, which also features Champ Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber for the bantamweight title, as well as Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le and Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz III, range from $125 to $1,200.

UFC officials initially announced Silva vs. Sonnen II for UFC 147 on June 23 at Joao Havelange Stadium (also known as Engenhao Stadium) in Rio de Janeiro. However, in recent weeks, White said the company was considering a different date due to the United Nations’ “Rio +20″ meeting, which is scheduled for June 20-22 in Rio de Janeiro. That meeting prompted political pressure from local officials and resulted in a lack of hotel rooms for such a large UFC stadium show, and UFC brass moved the fight to Las Vegas.

Tickets go on sale to the general public next Friday, May 4, at 3 p.m. ET (12 p.m. PT local time).

However, UFC Fight Club members can purchase tickets on Wednesday, May 2, at 1 p.m. ET, and e-newsletter subscribers can buy their seats on Thursday, May 3, at 1 p.m. ET.

The current UFC 148 lineup includes:

  • Champ Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen (for middleweight title)
  • Champ Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber (for bantamweight title)
  • Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le
  • Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz
  • Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch
  • Renan Barao vs. Ivan Menjivar
  • Fabricio Camoes vs. Melvin Guillard
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Gleison Tibau
  • Dong Hyun Kim vs. Demian Maia
  • Riki Fukuda vs. Constantinos Philippou
