Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante meets OSP at UFC 196

Rafael ‘Feijao’ Cavalcante meets OSP at UFC 196

December 18, 2015

The UFC’s Super Bowl weekend card in Las Vegas has some more firepower added to it with the addition of a big light heavyweight bout.

Rafael Cavalcante (12-6 MMA, 1-3 UFC) will meet Ovince Saint Preux (18-7 MMA, 6-2 UFC) on the card in “Sin City.” UFC officials announced the fight on tonight’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on FOX Sports 1.” Saint Preux is ranked No. 8 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light heavyweight rankings.

UFC 196 takes place Feb. 6 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Cavalcante has gone more than two years without a win and needs to snap a two-fight losing skid. In fact, thanks to a no-contest due to a failed drug test in Strikeforce, “Feijao” has just two wins since losing the Strikeforce light heavyweight title to Dan Henderson in March 2011. Cavalcante’s lone UFC win came in November 2013 with a TKO against Igor Pokrajac. After that, though, he dropped a decision to Ryan Bader at UFC 174 and was stopped by Patrick Cummins at UFC 190 in Brazil in August.

Saint Preux, a fellow Strikeforce veteran, also will be looking for a return to the win column. After first-round TKO wins over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Cummins, he was submitted by Glover Teixeira in the UFC Fight Night 73 main event in Nashville in August. Despite that setback, he picked up a “Fight of the Night” bonus to go along with his performance bonuses for his 34-second KO of “Shogun” and a 2014 submission win over Nikita Krylov.

With the addition, UFC 196 now includes:

  • Champ Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez – for heavyweight title
  • Johny Hendricks vs. Stephen Thompson
  • Roy Nelson vs. Jared Rosholt
  • Josh Burkman vs. K.J. Noons
  • Mike Pyle vs. Sean Spencer
  • Rafael Cavalcante vs. Ovince Saint Preux
