Freire (14-6 MMA, 7-5 BMMA) returned from a near-yearlong layoff to score a dominant unanimous-decision victory over Saad Awad (18-7 MMA, 6-4 BMMA) in this past Friday’s Bellator 141 co-main event.
After the Spike-televised show, which took place at Pechanga Casino & Resort in Temecula, Calif., the 29-year-old Freire said he’s ready to settle a score with Brooks (16-1 MMA, 8-1 BMMA), whom he’s sparred with on social media.
“He’s a guy who talks a lot,” Freire, who’s now on a 4-1 run, said through interpreter Ed Soares after the event (watch the fight highlights below). “Even in the last year when I … fought in the finals of the tournament, he was already talking smack about me. I don’t know what drove him to do that. But I’m focused on getting the title, and if Will Brooks happens to have the title, I’m going to happily take that fight and beat him up and give him a payback for all this trash he’s been talking.
“I think he’s a loudmouth, and I think I’m going to embarrass him.”
