The UFC continues to punch up its October card in Minneapolis and has made official three fights for UFC on FX 5.
Matt Mitrione (5-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) meets Rob Broughton (15-7-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) in a heavyweight bout; Bart Palaszewski (36-15 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Diego Nunes (17-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) fight at featherweight; and Jussier da Silva (14-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his UFC debut in a flyweight bout against “The Ultimate Fighter 14″ winner John Dodson (13-5 MMA, 2-0 UFC).
UFC on FX 5 takes place Oct. 5 at Target Center in Minneapolis. The night’s main card airs on FX, and FUEL TV and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims.
Broughton recently pulled out of his UFC on FOX 4 bout with Mitrione that was set for this weekend. Rather than find a replacement for him, the UFC chose to move the fight down the calendar by two months. Mitrione looks to get back on track after a unanimous-decision loss to Cheick Kongo at UFC 137, which snapped his five-fight win streak. Broughton won his UFC debut against Vinicius Queiroz at UFC 120 but since has lost back-to-back fights to Travis Browne and Phil De Fries.
Palaszewski in February dropped a unanimous decision to Hatsu Hioki at UFC 144 in Japan. The Midwest-based veteran of more than 50 professional fights won his UFC debut in October 2010 at UFC 137, where he knocked out Tyson Griffin in the first round. Nunes has been up and down so far in his UFC career after moving over from the WEC. In April, he dropped a unanimous decision to Dennis Siver at UFC on FUEL TV 2. A loss to Kenny Florian at UFC 131 was sandwiched in between his two UFC wins – split decisions over Mike Brown and Manny Gamburyan.
Da Silva was a flyweight titleholder for Shooto Brazil and has been competing for Tachi Palace Fights. His only career loss came at the hands of UFC flyweight contender Ian McCall. “Formiga” has won five straight, four by submission. Dodson, the “TUF 14″ bantamweight winner, returned to flyweight at UFC on FOX 3, where he outpointed Tim Elliott for his fourth straight win.
UFC on FX 5 features a main-event heavyweight bout between Travis Browne and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The card originally was scheduled to take place Sept. 7 in Indianapolis, but earlier this month, it was shifted to Minneapolis.
The latest UFC on FX 5 card includes:
Travis Browne vs. Antonio Silva
Matt Mitrione vs. Rob Broughton
Josh Neer vs. Justin Edwards
Carlo Prater vs. Marcus LeVesseur
Darren Uyenoyama vs. Louis Gaudinot
Jussier da Silva vs. John Dodson
Bart Palaszewski vs. Diego Nunes
