Hisaki Kato vs. Melvin Manhoef headlines Bellator 146 in November

September 13, 2015

Expect to see some middleweight fists flying in November’s Bellator 146 main event.

Bellator officials today announced strikers Hisaki Kato (5-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) and Melvin Manhoef(29-12-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) are scheduled to headline the show.

Bellator 146 takes place Nov. 20 at WinStar World Casino and Resort in Thackerville, Okla. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.

Kato, a 32-year-old Japanese fighter, made an impact in his Bellator debut after upsetting 5-1 favorite Joe Schilling at Bellator 139 in June. The victory, which marked his fifth knockout in five career wins, came via Superman punch and earned MMAjunkie’s “Knockout of the Month” award.

He now meets Manhoef, who recently suffered consecutive knockout losses to Schilling and Alexander Shlemenko (thought the Shlemenko loss was overturned due to the Russian’s failed drug test). The 39-year-old Surinamese-Dutch fighter and Strikeforce-DREAM vet has racked up a number of knockout losses during his recent MMA and kickboxing runs, and he faces the risk of another when taking on the hard-hitting Kato.
