Fight fans may have seen the end of an MMA era on Saturday night.
In what is likely to be his final fight in the UFC, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson (32-11 MMA, 7-5 UFC) dropped a unanimous decision to Glover Teixeira (20-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC).
The fight was the co-main event of UFC on FOX 6, which took place at United Center in Chicago.
Teixeira and Jackson slugged it out over three rounds, with the Brazilian taking the nod with a pair of 30-27 scores and one 29-28. Leading up to the fight, Jackson has maintained that he will leave the promotion to test the market in free agency now that his contract is up. The former light heavyweight champion and longtime PRIDE star now has dropped three straight with the loss, including a title fight against Jon Jones to start the skid.
“I really wanted to win that fight,” Jackson said. “I kinda wish I fought smart and didn’t get hit so much, but I always said I would rather lose a good fight than win a boring-ass one, and the fans are telling me that was an exciting fight. So I guess I’m sad, but not so sad. I fought like Rampage tonight. I tried to knock him out with every punch. Wasn’t so smart, but if it was fun for the fans, I will take that and be OK with that.
“I’m happy to end on an exciting fight for (the fans). I came in to the UFC exciting and I left exciting.”
Full highlights now are available for the fight, which aired live on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook.
