Next month’s Bellator 147 card in California has a lightweight rematch added to the main card.
Patricky Freire (14-6 MMA, 7-5 BMMA) is set to take on Derek Anderson (12-2 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) on the card, promotion officials today announced. In addition, the prelims have three new fights: J.T. Donaldson (1-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) vs. A.J. McKee (2-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) at featherweight; Mauricio Alonso (10-7 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) vs. James Terry (16-8 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) at welterweight; and Thomas Diagne (5-4-1 MMA, 0-0-1 BMMA) vs. Erick Sanchez (5-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at featherweight.
Bellator 147 takes place Dec. 4 at San Jose State University Event Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.
“Pitbull” Freire and Anderson first met at Bellator 98 in September 2013, where Anderson won a unanimous decision to give Freire three straight losses and four setbacks in five fights, easily the lowest point of his career.
Freire has rebounded since then, though, with four wins in his past five fights. After a decision win over Edson Berto, he knocked out David Rickels and Derek Campos in Bellator’s Season 10 lightweight tournament. But in the tourney final against Marcin Held, he dropped a decision and Held went on to get in the queue for a title shot. In August, after a lengthy layoff, Freire returned and took a decision from Saad Awad at Bellator 141.
Anderson’s win over Freire came in his Bellator debut and kept him unbeaten at 10-0. After that, he knocked out Brandon Girtz at Bellator 113. But since then, the road has been a little bumpier. He was submitted by Marcin Held in April 2014, rebounded with a January TKO win over Danny Navarro, but fell back to the loss column with a split-decision setback against Brent Primus at Bellator 141.
With the additions, the Bellator 147 card now includes:
Josh Thomson vs. Pablo Villaseca
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Daniel Weichel
Derek Anderson vs. Patricky Freire
John Donaldson vs. A.J. McKee
Mauricio Alonso vs. James Terry
Thomas Diagne vs. Erick Sanchez
Chris Honeycutt vs. opponent TBA
